My First Parasite Cleanse: How it Went and How It Didn’t

A few weeks ago my sister sent me a reel on Instagram where a lady was showing the results of her release after an enema while on a parasite cleanse. “What is wrong with this lady that she would have these?” That video and that question sent me down a long worm hole (pun intended), that I still haven’t escaped from.

“I mean, everyone has parasites, but….” I replied. And yes, if you’re reading this, you have them, too. We all have parasites, both visible and microscopic. I knew that. However, I DID NOT know that we had the kinds of things that that lady had coming out of her. No one talks about parasite cleanses. Not one doctor has ever told me I should have one, nor I suspect, have they told you you should have one, either.  I started doing some research on exactly who should do a parasite cleanse. The more I read, the more I felt a deep sense of anger within me. From what I could gather, *most* everyone could benefit from a parasite cleanse. Firstly, you don’t just release parasites. You also release heavy metals, candida, and other harmful bacteria and viruses. Here are just a few of the many things they listed could be reason enough to do a cleanse.  If you’re a grown adult who’s never done one, check. If you eat raw seafood, meat or fruits and veggies, check. If you have ever travelled out of the U.S. and eaten food there, check. If you have cats and dogs in your home, check. Other medical conditions such as autoimmune diseases, late onset of food allergies, G.I. issues, if you have tested positive for parasites, and the list went on an on. It was all I needed to see. I was going to do it.

Now, some would call me crazy, some may say it’s a good trait, but I am definitely the kind of person who is willing to try something like a parasite cleanse after only just learning about it all on my own the day before. I spent an entire day scouring the internet and other resources looking up protocols and ingredients. I found out that I could find nearly all of the items I would need right here in my little town. And I did.  But nonetheless, I gathered all the necessary items and started the very next day. (I am going to get to the part here soon, about why you definitely don’t want to do what I did here in a minute) Actually, I took the first round of herbs (worm killers) that night.

Days 1-5 were great! I was feeling super light, but still high energy and pretty good. I had some emotional times and others where I felt highly irritated, but I was doing pretty well. I was following an alkaline diet of only fruits, veggies, and  protein shakes. Admittedly, I had a couple  very small cheat moments. But in general, I was very strict with what I was eating, and when. I started having crazy critters come out of me on Day 2. Like super disgusting, long, egg filled, types of critters and homes. The amount of eggs… I can’t even. The thing about the diet was that I had very little food waste exiting so I knew for sure that it was parasites and their remnants. The only real negative and uncomfortable side effects I was having at this point was a skin rash that I had initially blamed on some gel polish that I had used. But the rash kept coming and growing days after I removed the polish, so…

Day 6. Oh, my god. Day 6. I had zero energy. The worst headache. My rash was only getting worse. I had brain fog. I had alll the things. I felt terrible. I had inquired with another wellness gal that does these often and she told me that was absolutely normal and par for the course. It was a sign that things were indeed dying off and releasing their toxins into my system. Yay! It was working. She said though, that because I was having such bad Herx reactions, particularly the skin rash, it meant my body was having a hard time removing these toxins and maybe I didn’t open the detox pathways enough. I was surprised by this, because I am the type of person who dry brushes probably 5 days a week. I do my Sauna Blanket 2-3 times a week. I take salt baths. I drink water. Ugh. How was it not enough?

Day 7. By this day, I was still feeling it. Guys, I. Was. In. It. I needed to back off on the herbs because I didn’t know how long I was going to feel this way, and I  have too much on my plate to be able to be down like that. So, I threw in the towel. I felt super emotional about this. I knew in my heart that I still had so much work to do, but I needed to give my body a break. I also realized at that moment, I had more work to do on the emotional level, too. I hadn’t thought about the need for the emotional releasing and talking to my body. Did I let my body know it was safe to release the things it’s been carrying for probably decades? It was apparent I probably hadn’t.

So, along with the fact I hadn’t really “had the talk” with my body, there were a few things that I would do different next time.

1. My diet BEFORE the cleanse. My body feels it’s best when it gets lots of animal protein and just protein in general. I typically eat lots of eggs, cottage cheese, yogurts and kefir, sausages, chicken, etc. So me just going cold turkey on all of that alone was enough to make me feel pretty out of sorts and funky. It was clear I needed to make that change many days in advance.

2. Also, caffeine. You don’t want to drink caffeine while on this cleanse, and while I cut back on my daily intake (it was already pretty minimal) I shouldn’t have had any. I know, that’s a tough one for a lot of us. Caffeine withdrawals are not fun, and not something you want to be doing while cleansing.

3. Next, water. I did not drink enough water. Not before, and not during, either. From what I gathered since I quit, I should have been drinking about a gallon a day. Woof. That’s so much.

I am sure by now you have realized that I haven’t shared with you what I DID do. And, I absolutely can’t wait to share (some day) what I did do, because I think just about everyone could benefit from doing a parasite cleanse. And what I did was relatively cost effective, compared to the kits out there that I was seeing. But, I would want to set you up for an amazing experience where you can release the most disgusting things you can imagine, while having as little icky side effects as possible.  I don’t want to give you information and have it be harmful or for you to have as bad of a reaction as I did.  You know what that means… I am going to take what I have learned, and I am going to do the cleanse AGAIN! (My husband is so annoyed right now, as he never signed up for the daily photos of my releases and most certainly doesn’t want to see them again.  I am sorry, babe.)

So, yes, I am doing the cleanse again, because this time I know a LOT more than I did the first time. Overall I am happy that I did it, I feel so much lighter and have WAY less gas and bloating. My plan is to do it in May over the full moon. Did you know that worms are more active on full moons? Basically everyone in the parasite cleanse world recommends doing the cleanse over the full moon because you release more and it’s just more effective. Sounds like as good as time as ever, right? Stay tuned for Part 2!

Thank you for following along with me on this wacky, wormy, journey I am on!  If you have any questions or comments, send me an email!
